Superior heating thanks to innovation – simply JAWO

JAWO electric heating is made of aluminium and is not just a simple heating system. It is an economical electric heating, superior to others thanks to innovation. We are driven by the ambition to constantly cope with new challenges and optimize our products to make them even more sustainable. Since we maintain close relations with our clients, we get the most direct and constructive critical remarks that enable us to search for improvements. Drawing conclusions from this feedback, we offer our clients sustainability, which is demanded by them everyday and that we must implement. The sustainability of our products is reflected in around 1000 hours of development, over 200 CAD drawings, eleven new prototypes and numerous trials. All these construction efforts have resulted in 150 practicable CAD drawings and three new marketable products.

Among our innovative products there are accessories such as new wall brackets and aluminium towel racks. The plain pedestals were replaced by brackets for fixing heaters to the floor. Another alternative to pedestals are roll brackets.
Due to a new concept of the convection profiles, JAWO heaters show a better relation between radiant and convection heat. We are the first German company to use integrated programmable electronic thermostats with an LCD-display. They are economical, transparent, precise and easy to handle. Errors due to radio transmitting or disturbances during the learning process now belong to the past – thanks to the innovative control technology of JAWO.

A further innovation is our collection of aluminium bathroom heaters. They fit our established JAWO series style. Heaters in the lamina line with sheet steel housing and our KOALIT storage, offered at reasonable prices, may be an alternative for your summer home, hobby or basement rooms and are a good value for the money. To complete our offer, we can help you with the individual financing of all our products.
We have managed to develop efficient and economical electric storage heaters. We use KOALIT, a material designed specifically for the accumulation of heat. It consists solely of natural materials (e. g. rapeseed oil) and minerals. One component of KOALIT is even being imported from Australia.

The electric heater

Its main colour is white. Its surface is scratch-proof. The energy-saving JAWO aluminium electric heating system works according to the principles and mode of operation of central heating. But unlike central heating, where the radiator heats up via hot water, our JAWO heating, with its numerous aluminium heating ribs that profile the front side, heats up from the extensive KOALIT storage core. The chimney-like profiles made from high-quality aluminium are attached to the housing at regular intervals. This way we get a surface that is many times extended. For the purpose of producing heat, stainless steel heat resistors are air-tightly pressed into the KOALIT storage core. Due to the storage plates touching the complete inner surface of the heater*, the dispersal of heat from the outer surface is very regular, thus reaching an intense and comfortable heat emission. Moreover, a fine convection is achieved due to chimney-like profiles*. Thanks to the perfect utilization of radiating heat and convection, JAWO electric heaters are extremely efficient in their overall performance. But not only the outstanding quality and efficiency of our heaters is remarkable; also their outer appearance is very modern and absolutely timeless. Their form and design are really exceptional. They suit every style of living.

Electric heating? Heat storage? What is KOALIT?

KOALIT as such can not be found in nature. It consists of several components. The main elements are fireclay (clay and kaolin) mixed with soapstone (steatite). During the manufacturing process (certified ISO9001) this mixture is air-tightly compression-moulded with a pressure of 160 tons, together with the heating coil made of stainless steel. Here, rapeseed oil is used as a bonding agent. At a further stage, the formed plate is baked for 48 hours at a temperature of 1,300 degrees centigrade. This baking process enables the components to combine and form a unit. The baking changes the steatite structure and the material periclase (MgO) is generated. This product is what we call KOALIT. Thanks to this elaborate manufacturing process and the use of the above mentioned components we reach an appropriate capacity of storage in our heating plates.

Due to our highly heat-conductive aluminium housing, we reach an ideal heat exhaustion and responsivity combined with our Koalit storage core.

Why is soapstone added?

Soapstone is a natural mineral of high density. Depending on its natural composition, there exists a variety of soapstone. It consists mainly of talc and magnesite. Due to that fact, some types of soapstone are very efficient at storing heat. This characteristic is used in building storage heaters and heating appliances. We use only soapstone of the highest quality from selected exploitation sites, e. g. in Finland. During the baking process, magnesite (MgCO3) turns to periclase, which by itself is a very efficient heat accumulator. Soapstone provides even more advantages. It makes our Koalit storage core harder and thus it prevents the sanding or crumbling of our storage plates. Through the addition of soapstone, we achieve not only an efficient storage capability, but also an improved heat conduction that is boosted by the aluminium body.

Why do we need fireclay then?

Fireclay is used mainly for furnace construction. It functions as both thermal insulator for construction parts sensitive to heat and as heat accumulator. In appliances that have heating coils and work at high temperatures, it serves as a carrier for the heating coil. In JAWO heaters, fireclay serves to insulate the heating coil, which is air-tightly pressed in our Koalit plates, from the casing, and as a heat conductor. As mentioned above, this thermal carrier is mixed with soapstone in order to achieve a better result that we would like our clients to profit from.

Highlights for the building-owner

Here is another interesting aspect worth paying attention to when building multiple dwelling units. It is about how arguments between building owners and tenants frequently arise on the topic of heating bills - arguments that are not unusual in large apartment houses with a central heating system – and which can be avoided in advance. In this case, electric heat storage systems in connection with electrical water heaters offer many advantages. As the electrical warmth is regulated room by room, an exact and fair calculation of heating costs can be guaranteed for every apartment without the need of much administration. The tenant has full control of his heating and warm water bills all the time and can settle his accounts directly with the energy provider. The building-owner can be relieved of the administration of heating costs as well as additional costs of leasing or buying heat meters, maintenance and safety inspection costs of chimneys, tanks and other appliances.
